The winner is: Sandy! Congratulations, my friend, and please email me your address.
I’ve spent at least three days or longer wondering what my savvy might be, and I’m still not certain.
Could it be teaching? Maybe.
Folding complicated origami figures? Quite possibly.
Having a heart for mercy and a great big smile? Yes, but that’s not exactly a real savvy, in my opinion.
I don’t know for sure what my savvy is, but I do know what I don’t want it to be: the one Mibs Beaumont has.
She can read people’s thoughts.
Ew. I no more want to know what people are thinking than I want xRay vision. Some things are just better left undetected. I’ve spent my life trying not to be all caught up in what people are thinking, and if I know it, not letting it effect me.
Like the times that the boys teased me in gym because I couldn’t hit a homerun, or even the ball when it came flying by me…like the times my teachers were scornful because I couldn’t understand the Math problem no matter how hard they yelled…like the times a certain girl in my class is conjuring up yet another lie. There are some things, most things, that I just don’t want to know.
Do you know what your savvy is? Do you have a special gift that changes your life, if not your world, in a unique way?
Leave me your idea, and you’ll have a chance to win my hardcover edition of this lovely book.

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

It is hard to talk about our own talents! I don’t mind hearing others talk about theirs, but when I do it, it seems too much like bragging! But I will get out of my comfort zone and try. I have always been the group shrink. I think maybe that is because I am a good listener. Ever since I was little and through to this day, people come to me with their problems. I try to find the good in everyone (sometimes its very hard!), give honest feedback, and big hugs. I also have sort of a self-depricating sense of humor, and try to laugh when things get hairy. Not only does that keep me lighter in spirit, it lifts my friends as well. Whew. That was hard!
Sandy, I use a sense of humor, too. All the teachers say they can hear me laughing down the hall. That’s the only way I know to deflect arrows of criticism and complaining; it’s also quite necessary in the absurdities of bureaucracy. Thanks for leaving me your heartfelt thoughts.
I had to really think about this. I know I have certain gifts and talents that God has given me, but one that “changes your life, if not your world, in a unique way?” The one I came up with is the ability to see past what people project to the good on the inside. I tend to be able to be friends with people that others would consider “too hard or difficult”. In fact, I seem to attract those people as friends. I think it changes my life because it certainly makes it more interesting!! and it changes my world because sometimes these folks don’t have any real friends that love them for who they are.
I’d say mine is analytical thinking (others call it over thinking!
)
Fun question.

Oh, and I already have a copy, so don’t include me for consideration when picking who to give your book to.

Great question! mine is…. changing diapers! lol
Bellezza, you’re selling yourself too short if you don’t consider a heart for mercy and an amazing smile to be incredible gifts. They are at the top of the list, if you ask me.
As for me?
Hmmm…
Given my job, I think it must have something to do with dealing with intoxicated young people without giving in to shooting them…
Or, more seriously, dealing with people who are in the midst of a crisis.

Neat post, Bellezza
Hmmmmm, my savvy? I’m pretty good at making people feel comfortable. They like to open up to me. And, I suppose I’d say my smile and positive attitude are pretty savvy too…LOL
