Sadly, today is the end of the Once Upon A Time 3 Challenge hosted by Carl V. at Stainless Steel Droppings.
Being challenged to read from the genres of mythology, fantasy, or fairy tale, the books which I completed are these:
Far and away my favorite of the stack was A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I loved it so much, in fact, that I have purchased the four subsequent novels in his Fire and Ice chronicles, of which A Game of Thrones is first. I’m absolutely enamored with the characters and events in this series.
The one liked the least was The Curious Tale of Benjamin Button. How such a great film, in my opinion, was made from such a shallow short story is beyond me. But, then again, there are those who love F. Scott Fitzgerald and those who wonder what all the fuss is about.
The books I read which are for children, or Young Adults, are: Savvy, Magickeepers, The Dragon of Trelian, andDarkwood. Of those, my favorite is Savvy because the characters are so very winsome; one just longed to know Savvy’s family in person and perhaps take a ride with them on that crazy pink bus.
So, thank you, Carl, for once again hosting the Once Upon A Time Challenge. You lead me from the shelves where I normally head into strange and marvelous new lands. I’m so glad to have you for a tour guide.

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

This was such a fun challenge! I ended up reading 5 books and loved all of them. I read Game of Thrones and look forward to the other 3 in the series. They are long though, so I’m not sure when I’ll fit them in. I like your list!
Terri, I’m looking forward to the other three with you, but also like you, I’m not sure when I’ll fit them in. Christmas break, maybe? Congratulations on reading five yourself! I’ll have to come see what they are.
Bravo to you for doing, pursuing and finishing this challenge! I’m wondering if I can convince my company to grant us “reading” vacations – you know, wehre we would read to improve our sense of the world, renew our “education” to a degree and learn stuff to bring back to the compnay to share, whether cultural, academic or fantastical in some way!
Oh, let’s right a grant for that very purpose!
Congrats on finishing the challenge! I did terrible this year but oh well, there’s always next year
Congrats on finishing, Bellezza. I had meant to get to Book of Lost Things but ran out of time (June 20th sure came fast!!). Although, with your reaction to the ending I haven’t been in quite a hurry.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day, my dear.
Iliana, let’s hope there will be another one next year. The challenge I didn’t finish this year was the Book Awards 2. It makes me sad when I don’t do what I set out to do, but I just had too many other books I’d promised to review I couldn’t get to the classics.
Trish, The Book of Lost Things was a big disappointment to me considering how much everyone else in the fantasy blogging world loved it. Have a wonderful day, too, my friend.
You are welcome, though I am hard pressed to consider what I was able to do this year as ‘hosting’. I certainly hope that I can be a more active participant, not just in hosting but in actually reading, when R.I.P. IV comes around in September!
I’m glad you managed to do what I have yet to do…read the first book in that George R.R. Martin series. One of these days I’m going to give my good friend Jeff the surprise of his life and actually read the copy he bought for me many years ago.
Carl, just the very premise of the challenge brings me into genres I don’t normally pick up, and wouldn’t have without your encouragement.
If you read A Game of Thrones you may have the surprise of your life by how much you like it! Smart Jeff, and he knew before either of us…
Congrats on finishing the challenge. I still can’t believe I haven’t read The Book of Lost Things. Hopefully Carl will run it again next year and I can have an excuse then.
